In California, a municipal police department like the Richmond Police Department, is required to follow strict state law when performing the necessary background checks for issuing Concealed Carry Weapon licenses. Due to the involved legalities, processing time may take several months. After submitting the online application, an applicant will need to submit Livescan fingerprints; when those results are received and processed, the applicant will be interviewed in-person by their assigned background investigator.

If the applicant is RENEWING a Concealed Carry Weapon license in the city of Richmond, they may not apply until 60 days before the expiration date listed on their current Concealed Carry Weapon license.
